Born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Los Angeles, Darcus's early musical instincts were nurtured by her family, especially her opera-singing mother, who instilled in her a passion for music from a young age. She began her musical journey by learning the piano at just five years old, followed by the violin, clarinet, and drums. Darcus attended the Conservatory of Music in Toledo, Ohio, before returning to Los Angeles to continue her private studies under the guidance of Ina Zan.
